The main site is at twitter.com and can be used to answer the question "what are you doing right now". Many people use it to send short bursts of information about something, and get answers back from their friends on the network.

Links to Higher Education uses for this product

http://jeremywilburn.wordpress.com/2008/03/04/using-twitter-for-higher-ed/
http://highered.prblogs.org/2008/02/27/question-of-the-day-should-universities-tweet/
http://chronicle.com/wiredcampus/article/2785/will-new-messaging-service-catch-on-with-professors

Web 2.0 Web Sites and Write Ups

Where are the students hanging out? It seems like when a company gets big enough that they become the place to go or the software to use, then the Borg collective prototype is evoked for that company. Welcome to the new collective phrase for Google, they have become on the internet with their tools, search engines, and other supporting functions like Adsense, Adwords and Analytics a part of the internet collective.

Read the rest of this article here: http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/managing-infosec/google-borg-or-google-brain-10174

The dependency of institutions to comply with various legal requirements, from HB 1386 to SOX to COPA to HIPAA, censorship imposed by governments, international policies, WIPO, and the host of others puts a burden on search engines that needs to be acknowledged. Google, Yahoo, and MSN all have to deal with the increasing litigious environment where people are willing to sue for what they think they need to do, opt completely out of the system, and indeed in some cases feel that they have to opt out to retain their own readership or customers. Google in especial has been in the press about this a lot, Belgium papers have opted out, Google voluntarily stopped carrying supremacy or deemed racist news papers, worked with censorship in China much like Yahoo and MSN, and in other words, is becoming if not already a multi-national corporation, with all the benefits and liabilities of being one.

Read the rest of this article here: http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/managing-infosec/google-borg-or-google-brain-revisited-12392

External News

Have a news or blog article on using web 2.0 in the classroom?
